Further demonstrating its commitment to the Symbian platform, Motorola and Sony Ericsson announced Monday that Motorola has acquired 50% of Sony Ericsson’s stake in UIQ. Seal (yes the guy who brought us a hit single called Crazy long before Gnarls Barkley), has a new album coming out in a month, and the first single actually recaptures some of the unique blend of techno, pop, rock and soul that his very first and most successful album did.
The single, ‘Amazing’ is more upbeat than ‘Crazy’ but bears some resemblance to his first hit single. Sixteen years later the sound has a modern edge, but retains the rich orchestration and production qualities. The Album will be called System, and is due out on November 13th.
Seal is also doing a one-time only charity performance to benefit autism research through the Autism Speaks. In a unique twist, the December 18th performance will be paired with interpretive ice skating performance from past champion ice skaters including Olympic Gold Medalists Kristi Yamaguchi and Brian Boitano, six-time U.S. champion and World champion Todd Eldredge, and three-time U.S. champion and two-time World bronze medalist Michael Weiss.
Mika makes his second appearance on Song of the Week this week with his follow-up hit “Happy Ending” which is currently climbing the charts in the UK. The fourth single from his album Life in Cartoon Motion, this track matches the energy and creative energy of “Grace Kelly”, without as much theatrical storytelling.
Whoever is doing product placement marketing for Nokia deserves a bonus.
The top two music videos in the UK this week both feature the Nokia Prism 7900 prominently, most notably the SugaBabes “About You Now” which focuses on two Prisms repeatedly throughout the video. The other video is Shayne Ward’s “No U Hang Up” which opens with a shot of the Prism and then shows glimpses of it throughout the video. Sexy, trendy, Pop artists loving their phones…. You couldn’t ask for better placement…..
