One of my favorite podcasts, and now really a fantastic franchise; Insomnia Radio has the best indie music delivered in a series of geographically focused episodes. Originally focused on major metropolitan areas in the US, Insomnia Radio has gone global with episodes from around the world.

This is a great introduction to the indie music scene in major (and minor) centers of creativity. Check out the latest episodes here: Insomnia Radio at Podcast.com

Podcast of the Week, May 1st

Filed under: Alternative, Indie Music, media, Music, Pete Cogle, Podcast of the Week, Podcasts

A new feature starting this week: Podcast of the Week, with a focus on podcasts that present, recommend, review or promote artists, music, or particular musical genres.

This week the Podcast of the Week is Pete Cogle’s PC Podcast. PC Podcast is a veteran podcast that Pete has been producing twice a week since January 2006. The podcast is entirely podsafe music, almost entirely indie, and the range of music is extremely wide with artists from many styles and many countries. Not the sort of stuff for those who never venture outside of Top 40 formula bands, but if you are into world music and discovering indie artists, you should check out PC Podcast.

Song of the Week – April 27th

Brandi Carlile’s – “The Story”Brandi Carlile

This is the title track of her latest album, and the single has gotten her nationwide exposure after being chosen the focus piece for a Grey’s Anatomy episode. Recent appearance on Leno was followed up with an appearance on Conan O’Brian Thursday. The piece is also getting crossover play on country stations and channels.

Brandi’s got a beautiful and expressive voice, lyrics range from poignant to heartwrenching, and her band and orchestration are both really impressive. This track is curl up and cry music, if you’re in that mood. If your in a more uplifted mood it’s romantic piece.

Turpentine should also become a single, and the entire album is musically solid and enjoyable.

Grinderman - Get it On

Get it On by Grinderman, the latest incarnation of Nick Cave’s the Bad Seeds.

Big, bad, rock ‘n roll…there’s nothing bashful about Grinderman, but the underlying melodies are as polished as anything in that end of the musical spectrum.

Heartborken to be missing the many performances of the bands participating in NEMO and the Boston Music Awards. Nathan Asher and the Infantry among many others performing tonight in Boston.

Attending PPME in Ontario, California which is a great experience for anyone involved in podcasting, but this is one of those times when you wish you had a clone…..
